English requirements differ by: institution (Group of Eight universities are stricter), faculty (Medicine and Law require higher bands), and course level (Masters typically requires 6.5–7.0 overall; Bachelor's 6.0–6.5; PhD 6.5–7.0).
Requirements by Institution (General)
- University of Melbourne: Most undergraduate: 6.5 (no band below 6.0). MBA, Law: 7.0 (no band below 6.5).
- University of Sydney: Bachelor: 6.5 overall (no band below 6.0). Medicine: 7.0.
- UNSW: Engineering: 6.5 overall. Law: 7.0.
- Monash University: IT Bachelor: 6.0 (no band below 5.5). IT Master: 6.5.
- Deakin University: Business/IT: 6.0 (no band below 6.0).
- RMIT University: Engineering: 6.0. IT: 6.0.
- University of Adelaide: Engineering: 6.0. Nursing requires 7.0.
- Griffith University: Most programs: 6.0. Health sciences: 6.5–7.0 depending on program.
