Ministry of Education Scholarship
The Government of Nepal, through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST), allocates a limited number of government-funded scholarship seats for studying abroad each year. These are typically bilateral government-to-government seats at partner institutions.
How to Apply
Applications open in June–July each year via the MoEST official website (moest.gov.np). Selection is highly competitive — usually through written examination and interview. Priority is given to candidates from underrepresented regions and disciplines aligned with Nepal's development goals.
Practical Limitations
Nepal's government scholarship for Australia is limited in scope compared to Australia Awards. Most seats go to India, China, Japan, and Korea under bilateral agreements. However, professional development grants (for government employees) are more accessible.
Supplementary Options
The National Reconstruction Authority and various line ministries also send staff to Australia on short-term professional training programs. If you are a government employee, check with your ministry's HR for cross-ministry opportunities.
Best Advice
Don't rely on government scholarships as your primary path. Treat them as a bonus. Apply simultaneously to Australia Awards, university merit scholarships, and your own financial plan.
