Why Mental Health Matters More Here
Most Nepali students arrive without family close by for the first time. Added to financial pressure, academic rigor, and cultural adjustment, the first 6 months carry genuine mental health risk. Studies show 1 in 3 international students experience significant psychological distress. Seeking help is strength, not weakness.
Free University Counselling
Every Australian university offers free confidential counselling to enrolled students. Sessions are typically 6–10 free sessions per year. Book through your university's wellbeing or student services portal. Wait times are usually 1–3 weeks for non-urgent bookings.
Headspace
Headspace (headspace.org.au) provides free and low-cost mental health support for people aged 12–25. Walk-in centres in major Australian cities with no appointment needed. Not age-restricted to domestic students — international students are welcome.
Beyond Blue
1300 22 4636 — 24/7 free mental health support line. Online chat available at beyondblue.org.au. Completely confidential. Available to all residents including international students.

Keep Connected to Nepal
Regular scheduled video calls with family (weekly, not just when things are bad) significantly reduce isolation. Don't wait until you're struggling to reconnect.
