Why You Need an ACS Assessment

For most IT-related ANZSCO occupations (Software Engineer, ICT Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, Database Administrator, etc.), a skills assessment from the Australian Computer Society (ACS) is required before you can submit an EOI through SkillSelect for a skilled migration visa.

Assessment Types

  • Skills Assessment: For applicants without an ACS-accredited qualification
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): For those without a formal ICT qualification β€” assessed on work experience instead
  • ACS-accredited qualification: Automatic recognition at the Graduate level for some Australian degrees

Documents Required

  • Certified copies of all degree transcripts and certificates
  • Employment references (on company letterhead, signed, detailing duties and dates)
  • Position descriptions (from employer or role advertisements)
  • Payslips or tax documents confirming employment period
  • English translated (NAATI certified) documents if not in English

Common Rejection Reasons

  • Work experience not sufficiently ICT-specific (general management counted less)
  • Degree not closely aligned to nominated occupation
  • Employment references missing key details (start/end dates, specific duties)
  • Assessment submitted for a higher-level ANZSCO than qualification supports

Processing Time

4–12 weeks. If urgent, Express processing is available (~AUD $350 additional fee). Total assessment fee: AUD ~$500.
