Where Are the Largest Nepali Communities?
- Sydney: Largest Nepali population. Strong community in Parramatta, Harris Park (called "Little India" but many Nepalis there), and Strathfield. Dashain, Tihar, and Nepal Day events are large and well-organised.
- Melbourne: Second-largest Nepali community. Active Nepali Student Association at RMIT, Monash, Deakin, and Melbourne universities. Community centre in Tarneit and Werribee areas.
- Brisbane: Growing rapidly. Nepali communities active in Sunnybank (also has Nepali grocery stores) and Logan City area.
- Adelaide: Smaller but tight-knit Nepali community. Nepali Association of South Australia organises regular events.
How to Connect
- Search "[City] Nepali Students" on Facebook — active groups in every city
- Attend your university's Nepali/South Asian Student Association events in the first week (orientation week always has community stalls)
- Volunteer at Dashain/Tihar events — the fastest way to meet seniors who will share genuine advice
A Note on Community
The Nepali community is genuinely welcoming to new students. Seniors who arrived 2–3 years ago remember their own first week and typically go out of their way to help. Don't be shy — reach out.
