Current Processing Times (2025)

The Department of Home Affairs publishes indicative processing times on their website. As of early 2025:

  • 75% of applications: processed within 29 days
  • 90% of applications: processed within 42 days

However, Nepali applicants from Kathmandu have reported 4–10 week processing times due to the high volume and occasional TB follow-up requirements from chest X-ray results.

How to Track Your Application

Log in to your ImmiAccount. Status meanings: Received = under review | Further assessment = being assessed, may have requests | Finalised = decision made (check email for outcome).

When to Apply

Apply at least 8 weeks before your course start date. Many Nepali students apply 3–4 months ahead for safety, especially for intakes starting in February (applications get busy Nov–Jan).

Can You Expedite?

There's no official priority processing for student visas. However, if your course start date is imminent and you applied well in advance, you can contact the Department via the ImmiAccount "Request for info" feature explaining the urgency.
