Eligible Dependents

You can include your spouse (including de facto partner) and dependent children under 18 in your student visa application, or they can apply separately after you're already in Australia.

Financial Requirement for Dependents

In addition to your own living costs (~AUD 29,710/year), you must show: AUD 8,574 for a spouse + AUD 3,670 per child per year. This is a significant additional financial burden on your application.

Work Rights for Your Spouse

Since July 2023, partners of eligible Student visa holders can work unlimited hours if the primary applicant is studying at a master's degree level or higher. For bachelor's/diploma level, the partner's work is limited to 48 hrs/fortnight.

School for Children

Dependent children can attend Australian schools but must pay international school fees (AUD 5,000–15,000/year depending on state and school). This significantly increases your total financial requirement.

Practical Advice

Many Nepali students choose to complete their first year alone before bringing family. This lets you settle, find housing, and establish income before taking on the additional responsibility and cost.
