Cervical Screening (Pap Smear)

Australia's cervical screening program recommends a cervical screening test every 5 years for women aged 25–74 who have ever been sexually active. This is fully covered by OSHC at a GP or women's health clinic. Australian screening labs are world-standard.

Sexual Health Clinics

Every major Australian city has free sexual health clinics offering confidential STI testing, contraception advice, and sexual health consultations. No referral required. Services are fully confidential and not reported to immigration or your university.

  • Melbourne Sexual Health Centre — free, confidential
  • Royal Prince Alfred Sexual Health (Sydney)
  • Brisbane Sexual Health Clinic
  • ANU Medical Centre (Canberra)

Contraception

The contraceptive pill requires a GP prescription. Initial consultation is covered by OSHC at a bulk-billing GP. The pill itself costs AUD $7–30/month depending on brand and PBS eligibility. The Mirena IUD and Implanon implant are available — speak to a GP about what's right for you.

Marie Stopes / Family Planning

For comprehensive family planning including counselling, each state has Family Planning clinics with fee-for-service and concession rates for low-income individuals including international students.
