February (Semester 1) Intake

This is the main intake. Almost every university and every course is available. The student community is larger and more events are organised. Applications typically open in July–August of the previous year. This is when most Nepali students arrive.

July (Semester 2) Intake

Fewer courses are available in Semester 2, especially at the postgraduate level. However, some universities like Deakin, CQU, and Federation offer most courses in both intakes. If you miss February, July is a viable option.

How Intake Affects Your Visa Application Timeline

  • February intake: Apply for CoE by October–November, submit visa application October–December, aim for visa by January.
  • July intake: Apply for CoE by March–April, submit visa, aim for visa by June.

Impact on PR Points

The intake you start in determines when you graduate, which affects when you can apply for the Temporary Graduate visa (485) and ultimately your PR timeline. Starting in February means graduating in November/December — typically a faster entry to the job market than July graduates.
