Don't Chase Rankings Blindly
The Group of Eight (Go8) universities — ANU, Melbourne, Sydney, UNSW, UQ, Monash, Adelaide, UWA — are world-renowned. But a Go8 degree may not be the best choice if it requires a higher IELTS score than you hold, costs double, or is located in a city where living costs will exhaust your budget.
Key Factors to Weigh
- Course CRICOS registration: Always verify the specific course code at: cricos.teqsa.gov.au
- Graduate employment rates: Check the university's Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) data — qilt.edu.au
- Location: Sydney and Melbourne cost significantly more to live in than Adelaide, Canberra, or Hobart.
- Scholarship availability: Some mid-tier universities offer generous merit scholarships that Go8 universities don't.
Pathway Programs
If your +2 grades are below the direct entry requirement, pathway programs (foundation or diploma at a partner college) feed into the second year of a bachelor's degree. This is legitimate and very common — don't let consultancies convince you otherwise.
Use CRICOS Search
Every Australian university course must be CRICOS registered. Use our built-in CRICOS search tool to verify courses, duration, and tuition fees before you apply.
